What is Hypnosis?

During hypnosis, the body and conscious mind are in a relaxed neutral state while the subconscious mind remains awake and receptive to suggestion. Hypnosis is an education-communication process to a person's mind that allows his/her conscious and subconscious minds to believe the same message.

Or, if you prefer, it's essentially that state right before you wake up and right after you go to bed at night when you are lying in bed and you know you are lying in bed, but you can see and hear your dreams. What we do with that state, however, is called Success Therapy.

By following the directions given by the hypnotherapist the client can easily enter and exit hypnosis. It is a voluntary state that the client choses to enter or leave at any moment. In hypnosis people are in complete control, which also means that they can experience having more control over their problems than they might have previously believed.

How does the subconscious mind accept hypnotic suggestions?

Hypnotic suggestions bypass the intellectual mind, called the "conscious mind", and zero in on the subconscious. When given a new suggestion that is within the bounds of a person's belief system and moral orientation, the subconscious mind accepts it as a new reality.

How does hypnosis help people?

The ability to reprogram emotional attitudes, beliefs and reactions is a talent within every human being. Hypnosis is the most functional and reasonable way to train life-long attitudes, rather than suffer a lifetime of emotion that the conscious mind is unable to change.

Can anyone be hypnotized?

People of average intelligence (unless there is some form of organic brain damage) can be hypnotized in most cases if they are willing and do not resist. The depth of hypnosis varies with a person's ability to respond. If you are not a naturally responsive subject, you can improve your receptivity to hypnosis with practice. Familiarity will assist in the process. Also, there are different types of responsiveness. Some people respond well to the stage hypnotists way of speaking and others prefer a different approach. In hypnotherapy we assess your preferences and use relaxation techniques that allow for a wider range of individuals to experience hypnosis.
